- Initially raised as the 15th Volunteer Infantry, but was converted to an engineer regiment after it arrived in Washington DC
- Served as an engineer unit for the Army of the Potomac (AoP) from he Peninsula Campaign through the Appomattox Campaign
- Active October 25, 1861 - July 2, 1865
- Carved bone cup is 1 3/4" diameter x 2 1/2" tall
- Scrimshaw "N.Y. 15 Engineers" and a castle tower / keep with crossed sword and pick axe
